Week 5 Update!

Happy Friday to all! I hope you all had a wonderful shortened week. We have been busy here in room B9! In math, we are continuing to work on our addition and subtraction strategies and more specifically looking at these strategies in a variety of word problems. Everyone is loving getting extra practice during class time and earning awards for iXL skills. We are also going to start our Moby Max fact practice over the next week. This is a great way for students to build fact fluency with addition and subtraction before moving to multiplication and division. In reading, we are continuing to focus on a read aloud each week. This week, we are going to be reading the story, "Saturday and Teacakes." This is a wonderful story about a young boy reminiscing on time spent with his grandmother. The genre of the story is a memoir. While we read and do activities throughout the week, we will focus on our visualizing skills as well as the theme/central message of a story. We are also

Week 3 Update!

Happy Friday! I hope you all had another fantastic week! We accomplished a lot of learning in all subject areas this week. In reading, we continued focusing on characters and character traits through our story, "Pinduli." We also took our beginning of grade reading test on Tuesday. Everyone worked very hard and tried their best! Please be on the lookout for those scoresheets coming home at some point next week. Also, please remember that these are end of year expectations. We have an entire year to show amazing growth! Please make sure your child reads each night for at least 20 minutes and continues logging their reading. In math, we finished practicing our graphing skills and moved towards rounding numbers to the nearest place value at the end of the week. Next week, we are moving towards adding 3 digit numbers within 1,000 using word problems and basic computation as well. We also finished up our unit in Social Studies on maps and communities. We discussed the

Week 2 Update!

Hi all! Happy Friday! I hope you all had another great week! We had a lot of exciting things taking place in our room this week.  I am so excited about this group and their eagerness to learn and participate in a variety of activities. They have really jumped right into third grade. All students are kind, helpful, and have such a love of learning. As their teacher, that's pretty awesome to see everyday. Thank you all for supporting our math and reading homework throughout this week. I love hearing students come in during the morning and jump at the opportunity to share how many pages they read the night before. THANK YOU! We were so eager to begin choosing books for our book boxes! Each student chose a chapter book that they will be taking home each night and reading during independent time in the classroom as well. Next week, we will dive deeper into reading incentives and book challenges that students will be participating in throughout the year. I LOVE reading and I

Week 1 Update!

Hi everyone! It's hard to believe we have already finished our first week. It went by so fast! We are off to an awesome start! Thank you all for of your support this week. From bringing in supplies,  "Me Museum" items, completing forms, and signing up for Dojo, you all helped make this a very successful first week.  We started the first few days just getting to know one another and getting our routines/procedures down to help our classroom run smoothly. Our class played a fun game of "Find Someone Who Has..." to find friends that had some of our same interests and similarities. We also read a great story called "Stuart Goes to School." No one in our class had read this book and it is perfect for the first week of third grade. Stuart, our main character, is very nervous about starting third grade but goes through some hilarious events and it ends up being a successful first week. We also participated in some "math about Ms. Brannon&
